Més o menys ho podem traduir com "apuntar" o "anotar" perquè bàsicament ho escrivim en un lloc concret, ja sigui un paper, una llibreta o una pissarra.
Sense el "down" seria més genèric, quan no tenim la imatge mental del fet d'escriure-ho.
Amb els exemples s'entén millor:
- He wrote a book about butterflies. (va escriure un llibre sobre papallones)
- I wrote a letter. (vaig escriure una carta)
- She was writing everything down as it happened. (ho escrivia/apuntava tot al moment)
- Please, write it down or you are going to forget it. (sisplau apunta-t'ho o te n'oblidaràs)
- I have all the notes down in my notebook. (tinc tots els apunts a la llibreta)
